Mutton Bustin' Championship

Date: Aug 10, 2019
6 seconds and a sheep. A rider steps into the chute and prepares for a ride that will last only seconds. It’s a familiar scene in rodeo, but in this case the rider is a child between the ages of 5 and 7 and the bronco is a sheep.

The Jeffco Fair & Festival Mutton Bustin’ features children between the ages 5 and 7 and under 60 pounds riding sheep out of a chute and into the arena. Anything goes, and usually does, as contestants hold on as long as they can!

This event takes place during the CPRA Rodeo pre-show. Special event tickets are required to enter the arena and view the competition.

How Your Child Can Qualify

  • Kids can qualify to compete in the grand champion mutton bustin’ competition at the CPRA Rodeo (Saturday, August 10 at 6:00 pm) by competing in one of our onsite mutton bustin' competitions. Winners will be chosen from each show to participate in the rodeo.
  • For additional details, to learn how your child can qualify to compete in the grand champion mutton bustin’ competitions and for terms and requirements, visit the Mutton Bustin' section on our website.
